Hello and Welcome Again!
My name is Chya Staton. I am from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and I am a recent graduate of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at the illustrious Hampton University. I received a BA in broadcast journalism in May 2015 and I am currently seeking a career in the media field.
This site represents only a portion of who I truly am and the experiences I have had so far. I am driven by my ambition to become a successful media professional. I enjoy the various aspects of journalism because journalists have the great responsibility of seeking the truth and telling it fully. I strive to uphold the duties of a journalist in order to serve the community.
I am currently pursing an online master's degree in communications with a focus in new media and marketing at Southern New Hampshire University. I want nothing more than to become a sensational media professional. Within the journalism field, I am interested in broadcast media, social media, online media, blogging, social media strategies, photography, and video editing.
Former journalist and playwright, Tom Stoppard once said,” I still believe that if your aim is to change the world, journalism is a more immediate short-term weapon.” For me, journalism is the long term weapon I choose to change the world. I want to make a difference as a journalist. I love writing and learning about different perspectives, meeting new people, and traveling. Journalists, in my opinion, have one of the best jobs. They are responsible for exposing corruption, informing the nation of government issues, reporting on breaking news, and writing stories that will improve members of our society’s quality of life. I would like this responsibility. I want to leave a significant mark on this world by reporting the truth and telling it fully.
I possess the journalism and communication skills necessary to report on a variety of topics, to shoot video, edit, and write clear stories on deadline, and to use multiple platforms to engage audiences. I am 100 percent committed to everything I do and I work well with others, as well as alone, to achieve the expected goals. I am creative, very committed to journalism and am eager to do what it takes to be successful in my career. I am willing to put in extra hours to learn the necessary skills that are needed to complete tasks and ultimately become a better journalist. I want to learn how I can be successful in this changing industry and produce work that will benefit society.
I am the key to your media needs.
